How has SPIFFY helped prepare you for a career in Finance?

I attended my first SPIFFY meeting as a Sophomore at UMaine in the fall of 2021. At the time, my financial knowledge was limited to what I had taught myself from my loosely managed investment account and the subsequent series of rallies from Wall Street Bets. I had not yet taken my first Finance course.
SPIFFY gave me the opportunity to take what I was learning and apply it to a more professional environment. This environment enabled me to surround myself with people who shared the same interests I did, and helped me to ask questions I wouldn't have asked otherwise. It was this opportunity that helped me to grow both as a person and professionally.
SPIFFY gave me access to physical resources such as the Bloomberg Terminal and Certification, which helped set me apart from other applicants when applying for jobs. The club also gave me the opportunity to conduct real equity research, which allowed for a real stock pitch in front of the club.
Today, I work as an Investment Research Analyst for Birchbrook in Bangor Maine. My experiences in SPIFFY helped me signifcantly prepare for the role I am in today. From the public speaking practice, the real equity research, the software, and the people. SPIFFY is an experience that can help you figure out what you want to do when you graduate.
